“Pride, Passion & Punjabi Wolves.....”
The Punjabi Wolves represents the largest organised group of ethnic supporters that actively follow the fortunes of any one football club not only on the British shores but also in Europe and beyond.
There has always been a healthy fan base of supporters following Wolves FC amongst the Asian & Punjabi population. In the early years the numbers were few and far between. In those days, the ones that braved going to the matches stood out from the crowd by their mere presence.
However, in recent times, football has had to adapt to many changes both on an off the field. Off the field at least, you will now see large number of Asian/Punjabi’s attending Wolves matches, be it in their own small family groups or whether it’s mixed with other supporters of different race, they are united together by their ‘old gold & black’ colours.
During the last half century, Punjabi’s in Wolverhampton have set up their own amateur football clubs and have actively followed the fortunes of their local team. The Punjabi’s have always been a proud nation; proud of not only their Punjabi roots but equally of the City they were born and brought up in. This legacy of ‘pride and loyalty’ has transitioned over into the second generation of British born Punjabis, who share the passion of following Wolverhampton Wanderers, leading to the creation of....... “Punjabi Wolves”
Punjabi Wolves are a supporter group with a broad and diverse membership base. Although, the origins of the group are Punjabi, the membership is that of a truly integrated community, including many non-Punjabi & non-Asian members.
Punjabi Wolves has built strong relationships with other Wolves supporter groups (e.g. Viking Wolves; Shrewsbury Wolves; Daventry Wolves; Brighton Wolves; Cannock Wolves and Black Country Celts). Another important alliance is with Wolves FC themselves where Punjabi Wolves have sponsored players, Dennis Irwin; Jemal Johnson; Karl Henry and more recently Wayne Hennessey & George Elokobi as well as Sandeep Bains of Wolves Women F.C. In recognition of their growing stature Punjabi Wolves were formally elected into the Wolverhampton Wanderers ‘Fans Parliament’.
Today Punjabi Wolves can proudly call upon a very diverse, multi-cultural and international fan base; forge strong relationships with other supporter groups as well as laying the foundations for firm allegiances with many other high calibre associates. The supporter group provides themselves on their universal and global appeal.
This link is further strengthened by their International membership stretching the four corners of the globe as they can proudly call upon members from as far as Vancouver, Canada; Dubai and also from Kanpur in Punjab itself.
"Everywhere we go, people want to know where the hell are you from.........?"
- Well hopefully this website will reveal just that!
If you're born in 'Bhol-ber-hamper-ton' and you live and breath football then you would be forgiven for following a second religion. The congregation of thousands can usually be seen and heard on a Saturday afternoon at the Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton.
This Web Site and the origins of the supporter group provides an outlet to those people who love and appreciate both of the above and so call themselves the Punjabi Wolves.
That said, the Punjabi Wolves members are diverse and so are made up of multi-cultural Wolverhampton. The events and initiatives we promote are for ALL Wolves supporters irrespective of their race or background. We hope to unite all Wolves fans and in doing so promote the good name of Wolves fans all over.
